Stream #1 - Don't Feel Sorry for Me

Merve Bedir’s workshop is about rewriting Arabesk lyrics today. Arabesk has a strong, atonal, broken sound, but the vocal and the lyrics are (arguably more) important. In Turkey, the genre represents a rebellion of those from the periphery. In her workshop, participants will listen to Arabesk songs and rewrite lyrics for them thinking of the day, today; then we will re-record them on existing mixtapes. These mixed tapes were found by Flip (Philippa Driest/ KIOSK) in a Heerbokelweg flat in Rotterdam. The workshop title is a translation of Bergen’s famous 1986 song “Benim için üzülme.”
