Stream #3 - Inburgered "REVISITED"

Inburgered "REVISITED" invites you to participate in a collective creative process in a participatory performance session. You’ll engage in dialogue with other participants to deconstruct the inburgeringsexamen (Dutch integration exams) performatively!

Inburgered is a solo performance based on the personal experiences of failing to "integrate" into Dutch society, despite attempts to belong. Originally performed at Theater Rotterdam and Poortgebouw in 2023, the work echoes the absurdity and violence behind the Dutch inburgeringsexamen exposing how the system stigmatizes foreigners and upholds exclusionary practices. In a time where extreme-right ideologies are becoming more mainstream and global conflicts persist, it is essential to create spaces where conversations about racism, white supremacy, and exclusion can take place. Inburgered opens up a space to reflect on the constant feelings of not belonging that many immigrants experience in the Netherlands. Omid invites you to explore these feelings and imagine new possibilities for coexistence and inclusion.

During this 2 hours session, you will be exploring different themes from the inburgeringsexamen through performative exercises, reflecting on how structural racism underpins these so-called integration measures while reinforcing institutional power. This session is not only about an exam, but challenging the entire notion of "integration" as a bureaucratic tool of assimilation. It exposes the layers of violence, control, and racism that silently run through Dutch society, offering space to rethink concepts of inclusion, tolerance, and white innocence.

Are you someone who

• undertook the inburgeringsexamen in the Netherlands,
• is planning to take the exam soon,
• has never taken the exam—and never will,
• has no clue what the inburgeringsexamen is all about

The aim is to bring together a mix of voices and experiences to open up new perspectives in our collective reflection on this work. This session is a moment of unlearning, and an invitation to allyship to build meaningful connections to resist the hidden layers of institutional racism in the Netherlands. The inburgeringsexamen serves as a prime example of a seemingly innocent society that is baptized in white supremacy, patriarchy, and neoliberal ideals by enforcing its norms through seemingly neutral policies.

Whether you’ve experienced Inburgered performance firsthand, or you’ve never heard of it before, this is your chance to contribute to an evolving dialogue and ongoing research on the topics mentioned.

You need comfortable shoes and clothes, as you'll be actively participating and engaging in these physical exercises. So please come prepared and be the star of the show!
